The "Joyful Noise" praise choir is the realization of a dream held by Pat Vaughn in early 2005. He felt there should be a choir for the early service each Sunday, and they should sing the kind of music he loved.
Steve Davis was soon recruited to join the group and added his beautiful guitar accompaniment to the mix. Then Roger Welch got into the act with his drums and the praise band was born. Soon Laura Cross began to play keyboard with the group and added her wonderful voice. Randy Cross completed the sound with his bass guitar.
The group started just being the "Praise Choir" but added the name "Joyful Noise" because every time someone would say they couldn't sing the response was always the same ... just come and make a joyful noise!
This group works hard to provide a special musical experience to early service. They play contemporary music, country gospel music, and even traditional church music with their own twist added to it. Anyone is welcome to join in the fun.
The "Joyful Noise" schedule has evolved to include not only the Salem UMC early service but also many off-site singing invitations. Last summer they sang for Camp Tanako, Salem Camp Meeting, Davidson Camp Meeting, and Ben Few Camp Meeting. This year’s schedule includes returning to those four places and some additional invitations.
