PURPOSE OF UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

The Organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

ACTIVITY REPORT October 7, 2007

Twelve members of Salem United Methodist Women met Monday, September 17, for the regular monthly meeting.

President, Willma Grimmett, read a selection from the Prayer Calendar by Shana Harrison, a missionary who works with mentally challenged adults in Santiago, Chili.  Mt. Carmel UMC has helped support Shana in a Covenant Relationship for several years.

The Salem UMW was invited to a salad luncheon at Benton FUMC on September 10, along with other units in the Benton area.  All participants bought "backpack" food items for the Food Bank program for school kids.  A program on how the Food Bank operates in the delivery of food to hungry children in Arkansas was presented.

A thank-you note was received from Aldersgate Camp in Little Rock for our $100 gift card to Home Depot to assist in building projects at the camp.

The South Central District UMW meeting will be at Christ of the Hills UMC in Hot Springs Village on  September 29.  The theme will be "Rise and Shine - Glorify God."

The group voted to pay the shipping costs for the Health Kits our church is collecting for the Ingathering in November.

Carla Fish presented the program:  TIME FOR SOUL SEARCHING: the need for a quiet time alone with God each day.
